Okay, it's official...I love this name. So uniquely hers and it FITS! No doubt about it. Her family calls her Rayne and she is a LOVE! She has the cutest smile and she is very attached to her POMM. This is her "grandmother." She calls her POMM. I received the picture in a Christmas Card and I knew I would scrap it. I was just waiting until I had a design in mind to include her name. I love this layout.

Wow, moments!

I am having a lot of these lately, the "Wow, moments!" You know those snippets in time that take you back years ago and even a few decades? That is how I felt when I heard the news of Whitney Houston's death. I remember driving my VW Bug at the University of Georgia and listening to her first album (cassette tape) on my Walk-Man (because I had only AM Radio) as I drove to whatever activity I was involved in. I remember when she blazed onto the scene and she and Madonna were in just about every category together for a Grammy. Today, is the Grammy's. I will be watching because I have a new favorite, Adele. But now, I will be watching as this news is hair raising at minimum and to hear that the blessed voice as Whitney had is no longer to be heard in person anymore. Only by recording. Kind of like photography for others. That moment in time when there are AHA Moments, Hair Raising, Spine Tingling, and I think I Pee-d in my Pants Laughter Moments. This is when going back through old photographs is so much fun. The nostalgia can be overwhelming but the memory of that space in time, encompassing. Too boot, there is a song that can take you back to that time as well. For me, some of Whitney Houston's songs do this in a great big way. Huge. Giant. Great!

So, now that I have put my heart on a little sleeve of the day...I will leave you with a memory that was a few years ago. I wonder how many photographers or memory keepers think to grab their camera when one of their children are simply NOT GETTING THEIR WAY? I did. I remember that day. It made Brianna more angry and cry more when I took her photo. Now, I giggle when I see the pictures and I just have to share them with you.

Valentine Party...

Yesterday I was busy making little gift bags for Brianna and everyone in her classroom for their Valentine Party today. I have never figured out why "now a days" (dating myself again) schools cannot just celebrate the day of whatever special occasion it is on the day it is actually intended. I mean they have the party at the end of the day anyway. So, what is the difference if it is Friday or Tuesday or Thursday?

I just know that Brianna gets excited about these little parties.

The higher the grade she is in it seems the parties are more controlled.

Micro-managed, structured, strict guidelines, or is it just me?

Either case, back in my day...we made Valentines and always something attached to our desk so receive our goodies and cards from classmates.

I kept the bags simple but still put each the name of each child on a tag

and attached to their bag with their initial.

For the teacher, I put her last name initial and her first name on the tag. Can you pick it out?

I am at home today. The weather outside pretty much is less than wonderful. I am doing my best to house train our new dog, Chynna (ch-eye-nuh).She is about one year old and we adopted her from a local vet. I know I need patience, but going from "never been soiled" carpet to accidents from our new furry animal family member is trying me greatly. As I said, it is raining outside and I took her outside 30 minutes after she ate her morning meal and "nothing!" Why will she not "do her business" even when the grass is wet?

We do put her in a crate when we leave the house. She gets to go out quite often, but she seems to enjoy soiling my art studio floor. I hate to gate the access because she may choose another area of the house. I really would like some pointers. I asked a friend via Facebook and he told me to be patient and reward her with sugar cubes when she does go potty outside. So, with this said...do you have any pointers for me? Is there some special trick? I have read ideas online but I am wondering how long this process will take?

Your attention to this little matter is greatly appreciated!

I was listening to The Carpenter's when I created this layout.

I actually scanned a color photo

(because this was taken well before I started scrapbooking)

and augmented it until I was happy with the process.

The original photo was not in the best of focus.

But I love how it turned out.

This and That Chat...

Well, I am thankful that Brianna is feeling better.

She looks a bit weak but

I think she is working through the "ickies" as

she is not one that complains very much when she feels badly.

She slept most of Thursday and Friday and

I believe her body was healing from whatever bug she acquired.


University of Southern Alabama vs. Western Kentucky University

Last evening, Brianna was an honorary "TOPPERETTE"

at WKU (Western Kentucky University)

She did really well. The half-time show was super.

All I can say is that Kentucky people take their basketball

very seriously like we who are from the Southeast take our football. NO DOUBT!
Did I mention that the WKU Swim Team stands for the entire game in their SPEEDO'S?
Uhhh, yeah, they do!

They were tied at half-time when

WKU came out on top with a 75 to 66 win.

But, I still cannot find it within myself wear WKU attire.

I still wear my UGA shirts, sweatshirts, and hats at all of the WKU games.

You can take the GIRL out of GAWGA

but not take GAWGA out of the GIRL!

Really and truly, I did get up and go to work.

I have no idea if we are going to have 6 more weeks of Winter, but the weather outside seems quite nice.

I had to leave work at 9:15 AM to go pick up Bri from school.

She has a "bug" of some sort.

While she was napping,

I put this layout together with the goodies that were on my scrap table.

Clearly, I am not a "daytime" TV person.

Okay, so I have managed to kill most of my day by getting sucked in and watching the HBO Documentary Series of the West Memphis 3. All I can say, "wow!"

Yesterday I scrapped a bit and started my Project Life pages. I must say that it is not as fast going as some claim it to be. It so depends on how one wants to document the week or day by day happenings. Considering I do not have the Style A pages as clearly most everyone has, I decided that I would customize it to what I have and what I want to share. I do know that if I use too many of my pictures I will not scrap them later. I guess that is when it hit me that this project is perfect for single people or those that use it for the purpose of sharing their weekly events with pictures or they do not scrap.

So, I am "out" on the opinion if I like it or not.

It is truly time consuming and it might be different if I had the Style A pockets.

But I am already behind the "8-Ball" and

the back order on this particular style has no estimate of when it will be available.

So, here is what I have so far.

I am still not convinced I will continue with this type of record keeping.

But I am committed to give it a go for at least a few months.

I have never been one to do what "others" do and in their styles. But I do love the concept. I am sure I will or at least try to make it work for me. If not, no loss. I can give my Clementine goodies to my daughter.

New Member of the Family!

Last weekend was much more dismal than this weekend. The veterinarian called our home on Tuesday night and we spoke for about 45 minutes. Dr. Matt Paxton at Greysone Animal Hospital said he has been taking care of a little Maltese puppy that was run over by car about 3 weeks ago. He saved her little life and is trying to find a family that will love her and take care of her. Well, due to Brianna's allergies we were reluctant to take in a dog. But low and behold, I took my lunch hour and went to see Dr. Matt Paxton and had a meet and greet with Chynna. She was loving from the get go and I fell in love with her. He also said that if Brianna could not handle Chynna due to her allergies that he would take her back. So, on Wednesday night I picked Brianna up from after school and we went to the Greystone Animal Hospital as a family (Brian met us there) and met with Chynna. One and a half hours later...we were once again, dog owners of a Maltese.

Allow me to introduce you to, Chynna (China).

Chynna is love. She is sweet and we enjoy her very much. Brianna's allergies started acting up on Thursday but with a dose of Benadryl in the evenings, we think the allergy sniffle will subside with the evening dose. Brianna is in love and is so happy.

This morning we take Chynna back to Dr. Paxton and she has her stitches removed from her spay surgery.

I believe this is a good decision to add to our family. She has already made a big burly guy turn into a baby talking cuddle fiend and myself...lots of happy greetings when I get home from work makes me smile!

Heart Broken

My sweet girl has been miserable for a few days. Her "Ella" has gone to Guinea Pig Heaven.

We buried Ella at sunrise yesterday morning. We headed into work and her big brother, Kaleb stayed home with Bri for the MLK day. Bri mourned at the grave site for a good part of the day. She made paper flowers. Her daddy promised her a rose bush that will be planted this Spring in memory of Ella. Ella was a good pet. She was sweet and never once bit me. She provided a little girl a pet. An animal to love and hold. Bri is allergic to most animals. She is so allergic that she can start swelling around people with cat or dog dander on their person. So, Ella was the perfect fit for our family. There is nothing worse than seeing and feeling the hurt that your child feels. There is nothing that one can do to make it better. Nothing. It just hurts. These life lessons are the hardest. Ella will be missed. I just never knew how much until it hurt.

I found this on Pinterest this morning. I am reminded of The Notebook.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. The nurse took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’ He smiled As he patted my hand and said,

‘She doesn’t know me, But I still know who she is.’

Nashville bound and down...

That is where I was today. I went in to work and then headed to my surgeons office at Vanderbilt Health. I took a few photos along the way. You know the kind I am talking about.

When you are driving 78 M.P.H and roll down your window

and just point and shoot. Love the little Nikon. I was always a loyal Cannon user.

Especially with point and shoot type cameras but this little gem is nifty indeed.

Yep, that is what I did.


South bound I-65 and Nashville, TN.

Then I ended up at Vanderbilt Health. Where I received great news on my weight-loss.

It really just gets me pumped and ready for ZUMBA tomorrow night!

So, for my "Photo A Day" picture I chose Vanderbilt.

I got home around 5:20 P.M. and was surprised how well the traffic moved going through downtown.

I guess I am still ~~tainted~~ scarred from years in Atlanta traffic. But oh the memories of slow lanes at rush hour. Yes, they can be found in Nashville, too.

It's Monday, but for me it feels like a Tuesday considering I worked 5 hours yesterday. Our beloved Falcons lost their game yesterday, too. My husband made the comment that "this is more sad than watching The Notebook." I laughed. He did not think it was funny! I told him he could become a Titans fan and he said, "NEVER!" Oh well, there is always this coming Fall.

I have two more layouts to post that I scrapped on Saturday. I used contents from Studio Calico's main kits. As for which months? Have no clue. They are back from the summer, though.

Both layouts are pretty simple in design. I was trying to keep it just to contents of the kits.

I have random photos that are printed and I have never scrapped them. So, I am hoping to get all of the scrapped within the next several weeks.

I am heading into to work this fine Sunday morning. While having my cup of coffee this morning,

I read Kelly Purkey's blog. She is just the cutest person ever!

In reading her post about making the Becky Higgins Project Life work, I decided I am in. I am of course behind. But not too far behind that I cannot catch up. I will draw out my pages until my Clementine Core kit gets here. So, I am in. I hope to be able to do this.

I plan on using some of my photos during the week from my Photo-A-Day class over at Studio Calico.

I love different hues of orange. So, I am excited about this kit and what the end result will be.

Here is a glimpse of what I will be using.

I plan on adding my own style but keeping it "in common" with the core kit colors.

My Monthly Self-Serving Treat

Each month I get a special box.

This month is no exception. I have been a subscriber member of Studio Calico way back since 2008. Before I became a subscriber, I used to just buy monthly.

Then I took the plunge in 2008 and have received this fabulous gift each month. Kind of like "beer of the month" for men but it is "mixed media" to a a person that loves to create. That would be "me!"

So, this is my fourth photo of the year for my "Photo A Day."
I plan taking this photo throughout the year. Each month. It may seem silly to you.
A Kraft pizza box with script screen printed on the box, however,
it is my reminder to get back to one of my favorite hobbies.

I really think I will hold off on cleaning and organizing the garage the coming weekend and create!

The "change" started last year...

Well, since I quit smoking I gained some massive pounds! I gained over 50 pounds. I went on a diet and hired a trainer. I was on a roll then I was hit from behind in my car while taking my daughter to school and my motivation to keep going dwindled due to injury. So, I started the education of drastic measures for me. I went to a seminar at Vanderbilt University about Gastric Bypass. Long story short, I had surgery on November 1, 2011. To date, I have lost 50 pounds. I am off all of my medications and have not taken insulin but just a hand full of times as I am on a sliding scale. I had my blood work checked 7 weeks out and all of my numbers are normal. My A1-C was fabulous and so was my Tryglycerides. For those thinking this was the "easy way?" Think again. One must have great mental fortitude to make this lifestyle change and maintain it in the long run. I have a tool that helps me and reminds me when I eat too fast or the wrong thing. So far, I have done really well. I do not like the weeks that I stall and lose nothing but I am learning it is my body adjusting. I lose in inches and with my weight training I will be adding some muscle tone as well cardio. So, there...I said it! It is OUT THERE BABY! I am very opinionated about this surgery. I do not think it is for everyone but if you have over 100 pounds to lose such as myself, it is a great tool. RNY Gastric Bypass is saving my life and adding years to my life on this earth with my family. I plan on updating here throughout my journey and I hope to relish, brag, state, and shout my goals as I reach them. So, here is why I am SHOUTING today...my blood work is NORMAL! That is awesome I tell you.

I will probably share some recipes as well.
I am learning to love new foods cooked in a new way.
Most importantly, I am HAPPIER with myself!

Well with the power to post ahead of time, I thought I would share a few layouts. The only time of the year that I really enjoy "themed" scrapping is Halloween and Christmas.

Halloween is the only time when I kind of stick to the themed papers, "kind of."

I actually created these layouts several months ago.

I enjoy the 6" x 12" layout for themed papers.

This is one of my favorite collections.

You just have to love all the paper that Graphic 45 produces.

First morning on the beach was wonderful.

The air crisp and we could feel the warmth rising with the sun.

We met new Friends, Clay and Barbara.

We jumped waves with them, went out to eat, sun bathed, and watched many people on the beach. All while making a new friendship and creating memories that will fill my scrapbooks.

from church this morning. 2 weeks in a row. I am addicted to my new toy...

It has a FABULOUS red leather cover. I am addicted to the ANGRY BIRDS, too. I know I am late to the party, but I seriously enjoy reading my magazines this way as well. FABULOUS!

So, this morning I am creating in my studio. I just feel the need to be creative. But somehow, My Color Nook is calling. What the heck?!

Last evening we went to Kentucky Orchestra and had a night of "Piano Men." It was fabulous. If you love Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Carole King...this was the night! We had a ball at Van Meter at WKU and it looks as though we are going become season ticket holders. The next concert is a night about ABBA- Abbacadabbra. Should be fun as well. I cannot wait.

I have some "new to me" items to organize some of my scrappy goodies in my art room. Not sure if I will keep them the same color or paint them black/walnut. For now, they are as is.

I have had this mirror for 2 years. It is finally hung. I totally dig it. I bought it at a consignment shop.

When we picked Bri up from camp over a week ago we noticed wooden crosses all over the camp. Crosses carved into tree trunks. For whatever natural reason the tree went down, they simply kept the trees and carved crosses in them. All sizes and heights. We found it unique.

Random photo really. I found it interesting. Found on a front porch at Camp Loucon. Kinda creepy, too.

I have been extremely busy lately. But I will post a few highlights!

I am almost sure this is alright as some may get bored with my random thoughts. But have no fear for those who enjoy a read, I will be back.

These are my two boxes from Studio Calico. They contained lots of goodies and my May and June Kits. I am terrible about going out to the farm these days. I am so busy that I just pop in when I can and to get my kits. I always enjoy the country drive for sure. April and Greg live about 11 miles from me and I it is that time of year when I need to supply the both of them with my homemade salsa. They love it.

So far, these are the only layouts I have created recently. I plan on getting my craft/art room back in shape. I am reorganizing. I have purged some things and I hope to be back creating in my room this weekend. I better not make any promises though...something always comes up.

Well, I guess this is it for right now.

Summer is Sizzling...

Literally! This has been a super busy summer for our family. When we are not working we are soaking in activities on the weekends. So, I really have not had much time to create or post here. Summer is my time of the year and prefer to be out and about-doing and going. Plus, I have something in the works I plan to share...I think. I am still trying to figure out when I share how to go about it...it is pretty big news for me.

But with that said, I have been creating with the 3 Scrappy Boys July Kit. I will show the first two layouts. I need to photograph the other things I have created with this really fun kit. So, here ya go...

Well, I guess many are staying home for CHA SUMMER and not heading to Chicago. But I have been checking out the Craft and Hobby Website and it seems there are some new manufactures of some cool products showcasing them at the convention center. I am anxious as it seems MIXED MEDIA art (my personal favorite) is becoming all the buzz and fad right now.

Well, I am off and about...I have a busy morning.

My new saying! Yes, you read it here first. Yesterday was a great deal of fun. Creative time with the fabulous creative scrapbooker's from The Scrapbook Village! There we several classes and everyone participates by round robin style. It was great fun. I enjoyed getting to know other scrapbooker's and having wonderful creative conversations. I really love Bonnie and Janett. I love shopping and now I have a new obsession (will save that for another post). Several classes and while I enjoy the classes I have a hard time following the exact design. Not out of disrespect for the instructor or the designer of the class, but because I kind of scrap to my own creative flow. I love taking the product and making my own take on the class. Let's see...there was Ken Oliver from Unibind that showcased the Unibind and how one can create their own photo book, scrapbook, creative journal, etc. He was my first class and my last class featured the Pinky (Cristal) Hobbs and the I-Rock Tool. Pinky's hair is fabulous and she has an infectious laugh. Overall, this was a great day and as always, Bonnie and Janett are wonderful hostesses. Be sure to check out their website as this summer proves to be busy in Glasgow, Kentucky! Coming in the Fall, I will be guest designing, "Technique Surprises." More on that later...

So without further ado, here is some scrappy goodness!

From Pinky's Class----Notice the I-Rock, Rocks? This class was about the technique of using them. Fabulous papers and I created this card with the papers supplied.

Same with this class, it was a two page layout class with a flower technique. I did not create the two page layout but enjoyed playing with the papers. I plan making a layout with the papers supplied and of course, creating the fab flowers that Lil' Bonnie showed everyone to make.

Yes, another BICYCLE LAYOUT! I have to finish those photos. So, this is what I created while gabbing with Wendy. Wendy is from Australia and she schedules her "American Vacations" around activities happening with Scrapbook Village. How cool is this?! She has been doing this for several years. She and I have began a new friendship that I see lasting for many more years to come.

This is the layout I made while chatting with Ken Oliver. We got caught up on the "WORLD OF SCRAP" gossip and such. It was great to talk it up to a fellow Atlantan. We plan on hooking up at future events for sure. Our talk was about CHA Summer in Chicago and the Scrapbook World as a whole. Funny how small this circle truly is, huh?

Well, anyhoo...I have to get in here and rearrange my art studio. I feel a Spring Cleaning coming on as my children from Atlanta are coming into town for the Memorial Day weekend and one of them will be using my studio as a bedroom. Do not snicker, it is the most favorite room in the house. It's simply fab! I will share photos for another day as well. I have to keep you all in suspense as I cannot share everything in one post.

I hope you had a great weekend and I am truly am trying to keep my blog moving. But I must create memories in order to be creative. Plus, I have to be somewhat of a bohemian enigma anyway.

Happy Mother's Day!

My Mother's Day Weekend has been awesome! My son who lives in Colorado sent me roses and chocolates that were delivered yesterday while I was scrapping the day away with my daughter. I have lots of new gifts and my husband took us out for breakfast this morning and he is now doing chores around the house while I do whatever I want. Gosh, this is AWESOME! But I must confess, although this is Mother's Day, I do get this treatment a great deal on weekends that are not specified just for "Mom."

Today, I do reflect on my own mother and my grandmother. They are no longer with me but they were incredible women. Strong, independent, and creative. They are greatly missed but more so today than other days. I reflect upon their influences within my own life and how they helped mold me into a great mother as well. For that, I give a big thank you to them.

So, what did I do yesterday? Played with my May 2011 Main Kit from 3 Scrappy Boys and the Add-On Kit. Here are just a few I created yesterday. Keep checking back as more will be added. Creative Pampering!

Yes, that is exactly what it was on Saturday. A day of scrapbooking, messages, gifts every hour, decadent cakes, eclair's, chocolates, and girl time. It was in essence, a day of pampering! I enjoyed it greatly and it ended all too soon. I feel I accomplished a great deal. I scrapped with my Studio Calico kits and shopped as well. So without further ado...

Signs of Spring and the Natives are Restless!

Warmer weather is what we want. Warmer weather is what we got. I recently had a car wreck and my mobility has not been what it was over a week ago. My working out is sidelined along with other favorite Springtime fun. But it does not mean I cannot take photos of others having fun.

I drink Diet Dr. Pepper. This is Bri's Favorite. I just think it is a pretty cool can design. Love the colors.

Statements of This and That

I am getting ready to go create for a bit. My club does not open until 1:00 PM. Yes, I would say we are in a community that still tries to preserve a bit of the "Old Sunday" ways. Everything just gets back to normal after the morning church hours. Because, Lord forbid "the women" cook on Sunday. It is just better to go to a restaurant and have it prepared for you from someone that should be home with their family. That always struck me as backwards thinking.

Here are a few more photos of randomness. It is just weird for me to post something without a photo. Know what I mean?

The above picture? What can I say...37 days of the white stuff since November 2010 to February 2011. Yes, I am ready for some warmth. It is nippy today. They are calling for some sleet. What the FLIPPITY DOO DAH?

The above Sterling Rose Bouquet is my Valentine's Day surprise that was sent to my workplace from my darling husband. It was the second bouquet. I had to get it a day later as the bouquet below is what they sent to me on V-Day. He saw it and said, "THAT IS NOT WHAT I ORDERED!" Who knew?

Yes, I would say there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE! BTW, the top bouquet lasted 3 weeks and the this bouquet with the pink flowers...never bloomed. The heads of the roses just fell off.

Well, I am off to create. I need to go play with some paper and glue.

Living Simple

I admire the once active "Shaker Community" and how they lived. There are only 3 Shakers that are still living today as our guide explained to us before we embarked on a self tour of the Shaker Community right outside Bowling Green. I loved that their decor was simple and everything had a purpose and was used. While I enjoy the clean lines and open space with gracious amounts of light, it just was not a "homey" feel. But on the other hand, times have changed. We as a society used to work hard everyday in the warmer months preparing and preserving for the Winter months to come. This was no exception for the Shakers. I will share some of the photos I took. It was really interesting.

The Bakery. On one wall was a huge Pie Safe.

Breads, puddings, and desserts were made here daily.

Entrance into one of the Worship Rooms.

I was surprised to learn that Shakers were ahead of their time. Technology as far as living was incorporated into their way of life. The amount of people that the Kentucky Shakers took care of during the War between the States, was incredible. It nearly depleted all of their supplies. This particular community of Shakers dispersed around 1922.

In December, I made the incredible decision to quit smoking. I had smoked for 18 years. I know, I know, what the flippity doo da was I thinking? Anyway, I quit with the assistance of taking Chantix for one month. I did try and quit during the time of great food and drink; However, it was the best time. Simply because all of my family was here for Christmas and well...I want to live longer, healthier, and I wanted to start putting me and my needs at the top of the chain. So, I did. When I went to my doctor in January I had only gained 5 pounds. I thought, "wow" not so bad. But 3 weeks ago I decided to join a fitness center because I felt I was gaining more weight. I did not know how much...I just simply felt it. Ummmmmmmm, 30 extra/more pounds! So, now I have a personal trainer, a house cleaner twice a month, and I am losing inches and pounds. I have had two sessions with trainer (roughly one week) and I have lost 11 inches and 5.7 pounds. This is great because I am living life, working, and doing what I love with creating art. So, there is no-one cooking my meals and portioning them. I am doing this on my own with a trainer for 30 minutes a week to help with workout routines for the following week. THE HARD WORK is up to me. I feel pretty good. I will share about this journey as I feel comfortable. But right now, I am super proud of myself.

So, there you have it. Stay tuned, I am on a roll!

Share, Say, Catch Up...at a glance!

I have so much to share. Lots of changes since the beginning of December 2010 for me. Scratch that, really since August when I started working again full time. Over the next week, I plan on catching up to the best of my ability and share what has been happening in glimpses. I love Blogger's little "post options" that enable me to make several posts and they be published on different days. So without further ado. I will begin.

In February I went scrapping and since I have not shared any of my creative works in quite awhile, I will share some of the layouts I created that day. There was left over snow on the ground but it did not stop about 70 of us die hard scrappers. We were ready to get out and about. The snow has been something this Winter for sure. More on that in another post. For now, I will share some of my works that include my own designs and a great love for Studio Calico Kits. I enjoy picking up my kits and it allows me to check in on the Foster's and chat a bit with Lori. As always, I gander in the "behind the scenes, too." But you could not choke the "in the know" that I get to see once a month. It is a bit of scrappy heaven for me.

So, you see? I am still creating. I am still painting and making cards. It is just that my schedule has changed and so have some of my priorities and I am working on me. More on that another time! I promise to be more diligent in posting and everything is finally falling into place and this year is already promising to be great!

Well, clearly... I have not been to my blog in quite some time. We have been IN THE SNOW pretty much since November 2010. However, the weather is warming up and I have scrappy fever. I went to a CROP for a CURE this past Saturday and played with some of my Studio Calico kits and of course...socialized with a few ladies. I had a friend from work attend with me.

Well, I do promise to get some NEW stuff posted this weekend and play catch up. I am busy at work and thought I would pop on here before my lunch hour is over. Okay, back to your blog hopping!

Christmas! Oh what a CHRISTMAS! Christmas cookies are baking right now as we are still, "Christmas-ing." Christmas Evening we went to church and when we came out...2" of the white stuff on the ground and it took us 45 minutes to go 5 miles. Brianna was convinced that Santa would be going faster from house to house because of the snow and landing would be easier, so we headed home to continue our traditions of the evening and woke up to a delightful CHRISTMAS DAY!

I have loads to share...but I have cookies in the oven. Tomorrow is back to work! But for now...

Thankful Time...Yes, indeed!

What a great Thanksgiving weekend we are all having. Our home is decorated for Christmas. Our bellies continuously full time and time again. Today is a day of creating in my studio and the chores will simply have to wait. We celebrated Thanksgiving with only a few of us but that did not stop the phone calls and texts from family and friends from all across the Southeast. It began to snow here Thanksgiving night and we woke up to a 1/2" dusting of the white stuff and super cold temperatures. Gloriously beautiful Friday! We even went shopping for a few things and Santa's stocking is getting pretty full already. I cannot wait until the week before Christmas. All of our children will be here and two will be bringing "ladies" to our traditions and table this year. It will be wonderful. I just know it.

It is that Magical Time of the year, again.

My heart is full of joy. This year, my present for Christmas is ALL of our family together at Christmas time since 2004! This will be the first Christmas that Zachary has been with us since 2006. Tours of Duty overseas and stationed all around the United States...he is trekking home for the holidays. He arrives on the 20th and Stephen and Lil' Z will be here on Christmas Eve to stay the whole weekend of Christmas. How exciting is this to me? I am over the moon with JOY!

With this said, YES, I have already decorated the house as my time is limited on the weekends with many Seasonal happenings and shopping. The hustle and bustle has already begun. We have had a busy November. We had to head South to Atlanta for a "Celebration of Life." I lost a special sister-in-law to cancer early in the month. It has been hard on several members of our family. But I know that time will heal the hurt and good memories will remain.

Celebrations of babies being born has been a great highlight. Impending births as well keep me shopping for those special gifts to give as new mommy's and daddy's begin the path of ultimate joy and unconditional love.

So, yes. This is a time of magic. A time to celebrate and be thankful for all of those wonderful people in our lives. I gather great solace and joy in knowing life is wonderful and every moment is a time to embrace and live fully.

I am still creating. I just to do not upload most of my creations anymore. They are becoming very personal and are gifts as well for many people in my life. But I promise to share stories and my day to day scrapping as my time allows. So, it is with this thought..."Take time to make the memories." It is truly the greatest gift to give and share with others. Your time.

What was I thinking?

For a few weeks now I have been thinking about giving up scrapbooking and simply concentrating on my mixed media art. What the FLIPPITY DOO DAH was I thinking? Yesterday, I drove about 40 miles north of Bowling Green and as I was driving and listening to music oh too loud; I had this charge that I had not felt in some time. No, it was not the Auburn University fans with their SUV's all loaded down with tail gating goodies and their loud ORANGE and BLUE that was a caravan on their way to the Kentucky game. It was not the fall colors that were vivid on the trees. It was not even the beautiful sunshine. Was it because I was not alone? Was it because I was not hurried out of state to take care of family business? Was it because I had not a care in the world? I think not...what I was so giddy about was playing with paper! Yes, scrapbooking. I was on a roll and nothing was going to stop me from one thing that gives me great pleasure. Loaded down with my own goodies I was headed north to SHOP and create and it is a wonderful feeling. So, what the FLIPPITY was I thinking when I thought I could give up something that makes me so happy? Clearly, I was having a "not so clear" moment in my life. But baby, I am sniffing glue again! Not literally, but you paper artists know what I mean.

So, without further ado I will share a few things I created in about 5 hours. In that time I shopped and had lunch with some wonderful ladies along with stimulating conversations as well. I love Halloween. It is the one time each year that is pure fun. For a few hours on one night we are NOT in the backyard summoning nature but we are having a grand time dressing as something we are not. It makes me feel like a kid again and well...it is all about the candy, right?

I have a lot more to update everyone on the happenings. Just stay tuned.

Give a Girl a CAMERA!

Looking back through our summer photos I simply smile when I look at all of the pictures my daughter took on her first Girl Scout Summer Camp experience. It was the first time going away where she did not know anyone. It was the first time I let her take a little camera with her to just take photos of her experience. They are not in focus, they are not of great quality, but through her eyes I was able to relive the week with her and she simply glowed as we looked at each one in detail and she recounted the moment with excitement and most of all, she had an experience that allowed her to make wonderful friends. I thought I would share a few. AHHH, youth and summer. Life is so wonderful.

She was telling me that the counselors went by names like, Lunchbox, Cookie, Nugget, Kiwi, and Pickle.

Many of her counselors were from "across the pond." Girl Scouts exchange American Counselors with other Girl Scout Leaders from all over the world. It broadens their own experience and they can share their cultures with girls from all over the world. Brianna was telling me the flags in their dining hall represent where Camp Pennyroyal had representation from all over the world throughout the years.

Bri said they made SMORE'S in a can. Layers of the SMORE goodies in a 3 pound can and they were, "YUMMY!" Of course it is not camp without nightly campfires. I think she had about 50 of these shots!

I do love that she had a terrific time and most of all, she wants to go back.

Hard to believe...the cooler air is nipping in the morning and summer will soon be no more.

Yes, I am still here. I am busy getting settled into my new position as an Legal Assistant for a law firm. I am working about 175 cases and absorbing the routine and tasks before me. I like the people I work with and the atmosphere is really great.

Robin and I headed to Fountain Square Friday night

for the last concert in the park for the summer.

People everywhere and sounds of laughter filled the hot humid evening.

It was a delightful evening and I enjoyed catching up with her happenings.

I seriously need a longer arm when taking self photos.

All in all, a wonderful evening and I simply must do better about getting together with my friend.

An Artful Life

Over at Art Freckles, this months kit is a delightful addition to scrappy supplies and creating. I love the name of the kit as well as creating with it this month. "An Artful Life" is full of cardstock and double sided papers to woo any scrapper to share a memory or two in their scrapbook.

It's Official...

Yesterday, I turned the grand age of 45! What does this mean?

Anxiety about my age. My mother passed away at 45. Yes, I think about it. I am healthier at this age than she was at 45. Wow, I said it. "I am 45!" It was not a BLOW OUT Birthday as we are in the beginning of a new school year and my birthday fell in the middle of the week. A small celebration it was. Well, actually I am not sure I celebrated. My daughter did the celebratory acts for me. Children are wonderful and see a birthday as "awesome!" I remember that feeling. I do believe that this is the "Only day of the year to claim as your very own." So, in essence. It is another milestone of life and should be regarded as special. It was. I think.

So, I will share bits and pieces of my thoughts throughout this year. Changing my blog up a bit to share other things that are important and some things that are less important but at least I will have something to blog about. So, today this is what is on my mind. Important? Ummm, maybe. Thoughtless? Not so much. But it is something I am pondering for sure.

This is a picture of my first cousins and me.

It was taken in October 1968 at Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega, Georgia. We chose our goodies from the festival of which has changed a great deal over the decades.

We 3 are now the "head" of our family.

Who knew that at this age we would have no family older than us living? I am the only one with children. Lee is the last male of the Thornton Clan out of Alabama. It is kind of sad, really. Deborah and Lee still reside in Georgia. Lee is now the artist and curator of Foxfire Taxidermy on the Thornton Estate. My uncle's legacy lives on at Sweetwater Creek State Park outside of Atlanta. Several of his prize winning Taxidermy Animals are on display. Lee will carry on the tradition. At least I think so. Deborah is into horticulture and pottery and lives in the N.E. Georgia Mountains. We were very close growing up and our family always shared Christmas and special holidays together. We also got together many weekends and shared family vacations when my family was stateside (Army Brat ya know). I just find it so hard to grasp sometimes that we are, "it." We lost Uncle Chuck in April and I know that my cousins must be thinking many of the same things that I now ponder.

I feel that I am blessed. I have 5 children. But the Thornton legacy will be short lived. My grandmother was one of 10 children where many families were born from her siblings. But we are the last of the Thornton's. I think back to many incredible memories and a childhood with lots of experiences shared with my family. I just never knew or realized as we aged that the possibility of no hierarchy being alive when in my 40's. It just does not seem right somehow.

So, this is what is on my mind this morning. Mortality or the lack thereof.

Yes, today it is back to school.

What is different about today?

We are under a heat advisory for today and tomorrow.

School starts one hour later than last year.

It is the first day of second grade.

She has two new teeth and two missing teeth.

Today is a great day. Daddy worked out at 4:30 AM to return and make sure

he watched his special girl get on the bus. This is tradition.

It is important for him to kiss her at every special milestone.

I asked him, "What are you going to do when she starts driving to school?"

His reply, "I will follow her for 9 months!"

Ummmm, yeah...okay.

This memory will last a lifetime.

Although it is hot and humid...I still have not gotten my fill of summer. School starts tomorrow and then I am all alone in the house. Well, for at least until August 16th. I was just recently hired at a local law firm and I am pretty happy about that. My hours are great and of course the extra money is even better. When I think of lawyers I immediately think BRIEFCASE. My mother was a lawyer and she carried a briefcase everyday to work. So, this is my image.

I also have images of lawyers with long hair. It's funny how stereotypical our minds become isn't it?
I will be working for a lawyer with longer hair. I will be working for a female lawyer. I am looking forward to the experience and knowledge I will gain. So, yes....I am excited. I really enjoy working in an office atmosphere.

Now, to enjoy this last MONDAY of "our summer" and soak in the love.

Yes, it opened just a bit ago. CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) Convention! Are you there?

Just surfing around this morning while my laundry is churning and I was delighted to see that "overexposed" photography is now considered "OUT!" In my day, this kind of photography was not a consideration for a comment of "well done." In my day, we also used chemicals to process our film, too.

I was just really excited to see that professional photographers all around the world do not care for this type of photography and sees it as always, a "FAD." One blog read, "the overexposed photo fad stemmed from Calvin Klein's Advertisement back in Spring of 2009." WHEW! What a relief. I thought this was going to be the "new" formula for consideration of, "perfect picture."

Well, "fads" are for inspiring and not longevity. They are not for what will remain but they are for what will become. I am so happy about this. I love candid-real photos. Not photo shopped, cropped, or bamboozled in some way to make a shot look different than it truly is. I think this is why many people love "heritage photos." But truly, did we really think that "overexposed photos" were really good?

It is so flippin' HOT!

The electric bill is up over $100.00! OUCH...

So, this morning I call the electric company to pay our enormous bill (at least for us)

and here is what she told me.

Bowling Green has been keeping/tracking/recording temperatures since the late 1800,s.

This summer is the 6th HOTTEST Summer on record.

Then she proceeds to tell me this is the HOTTEST summer since 1980!

WHEW!

She actually said that our bill was below average. That most everyone had a $150.00 +

up charge from the previous month. HOLY MOLY!

Looks like there is no relief in sight either.

It really is fun to read through the journal on camping trips while sitting around the fire in the evenings. We document the silly as well as our adventures.
Most importantly, it documents that I remain the "Queen" of the Domino Tournaments we have each and every camping trip!

In a NUTSHELL!

We arrived at the campsite early morning to set up and get used to our surroundings. Went on a few nature walks and had our traditional first meal at camp, HOBO Dinners. we also started our traditional Domino Tournament in which I still remain "THE QUEEN!"

Overall, I took almost 400 pictures and just made composites to view here on my blog.

Day One
Day Two

We awoke to lots of rain that subsided by early afternoon. This is the day we took our tours of the cave and also had breakfast at the restaurant. Considering it was literally a flood in the campgrounds, it was perfect to get dry and enjoy a good meal to the start of our busy day ahead.
By the way, our tent was dry but almost everyone in the campground was hanging their gear all over. We were very lucky.

Day Three

More hiking on this day. Soaking in the local history and stories of the Sand Cave and the historical death of Floyd Collins that died in the cave. In the year 1925, over 10,000 people came from all over to "picnic" and wait out while a man was under a pile of rock. It was known as, "Carnival Sunday." It is rather a sad story as he ended up dying. Hard to believe this was considered a form of entertainment. I guess it is not much different today, we all see "rubberneckers" on the highways each and every day when tragedy hits.

Day Four

On this day we walked down to the original mouth of the cave. It was pretty cool to feel the breeze (natural air conditioner) coming from the cave as we hiked down. You could feel it coming from the rock around our feet before reaching the mouth. It was 55 degrees and with a heat index of over 100 degrees outside...the mix was truly refreshing. In the late afternoon we took a short drive and went swimming. We did not have swim suites with us but our shorts and shirts were just fine. The water was very warm. But it kept us cool until late afternoon when we would conclude our trip with our traditional steak and baked potato dinner over the open fire.

I also keep a journal of our family camping trips. I always take it with us. It is fun to read at night around the campfire of our previous camping trips. Although, our entourage is smaller now. Our memories continue to grow and they are as big and fresh in our memories as the day and moments we lived them. I recommend keeping a journal of these kinds of family activities. It really is quite the entertainment around the campfire to read aloud.

In the morning we are headed here...

5 Days and 4 nights of camping. No electricity and cooking outside. This is one of my most favorite things to do. We are not CONDO campers. We love our tents. The older I get the more I am thinking we need to buy a POP UP! Okay, do not laugh. We love to rough it. We love the hiking and plan on taking several cave tours. We are excited.
When we return, I will share our experience and maybe a photo or two.

Run On Sentences...

Have you ever come across a blog that has run on sentences, improper grammar usage, and incorrect writing all around? I have. Sometimes it bugs me and then I remember that most people write the way they speak. I think this is how I am really. Sometimes a word is inadvertently spelled incorrect or I have dropped a quotation and the very worst, no punctuation to know if it is indeed a statement or exclamation.

I love to read blogs where people are telling a story or their thoughts in that moment. A reflection of a memory or a list where they are sharing bits and pieces about their life. In this day and time the medium of the Internet is astounding in all of its creativity finds, word lovers, and people who just feel like they have something to say. "A rant" if you will.

Stepping outside the artistic world and reading blogs of people I have no connection or common interest is stimulating. It can also be scary as well. I have read some really weird publications on the Internet. I believe it is a type of freedom that is universal to "share" their story or simply believe they are being, "heard." Especially when they might not have anyone they can physically touch "listen" to them.

I love reading blogs because in general, I do love to read. I am not one of those people that can inhale a book and move on to the next one. I spend time reflecting on the book I just finished. It is a process for me. Kind of like a simmering pot. I read bibliographies and history the most. Of course I have a few fictional authors I enjoy, but overall, in the world of "word" I simply prefer to read about real life. "Fantasy" is just not my thing. Although I do enjoy a good movie.

It's funny about blogging. Anything goes; Whether it is politically correct, written well, or just a simple list.

Quite frankly, it has replaced the "People" magazine I used to buy when the cover struck me as interesting.

Well, I have been asked many times how long have I been scrapbooking? Well, seriously since 2005 2 years after the birth of my daughter. Before scrapping I had another obsession that was fused by the fabulous world of the World Wide Web. The information highway. My obsession was seeking out friends from my childhood. Although, I was born in Atlanta....I really never had a concrete "staple" answer of "I am from..."
Well over 10 years ago I came across a lady named Donna Musil and she was seeking out Military Brats for her documentary. I filled out her questionnaire and intereviewed for a film that has now come full circle. This film is about "the journey home" and the sub-culture of life as a Military Brat that no-one ever really talked about. The documentary has since been viewed in many cities, Armed Forces Television, film festivals, and military bases around America. The documentary is eye opening to a culture of America that lends one to see that not just our soldiers sacrifice but that the dependents of our soldiers, too encounter loss in many ways. It opens the eye of the viewer to know that whatever "we" as "brats" did/do is a direct reflection on our Military Father/Mother.

Many of you are aware by reading my blog that a "Sense of Home" is what grounds me in my scrapbooking. Recounting stories and places where I have been is encompassed within my scrapbooking. I am currently living in a city for the longest I have ever been in one place as an Adult or child for that matter. Home is important and creating roots for my children has been something that is very important to me.

I honestly could talk about this for a long time and bore you with my stories, insights, memories, and move experiences. I have been fortunate to have lived during Vietnam and attend my first day of school in Okinawa, Japan during the change of the YEN. I have also personally seen and touched the Wall of Berlin that seperated the East and West city of Berlin, Germany before it actually came down. Military Life is all I ever knew.

So, now you know. My obsession before scrapping was seeking out relationships/friends that helped mold me the way that I am today. I have found about 14 people from my years as an Army Brat and still continue this search to find my very best friend, Karen Duffy. I have only come across people that remember her or her brother.

I just wanted you to know that this incredible film is worth viewing and absorbing. I am proud to say that I had a small part of sharing my story and if you are still reading this long post and are interested in viewing the trailer and the website of this documentary that has recieved multiple awards then please do so ---> Brats: Our Journey Home.

I am now proud to say that I am a mother of a military man and I sit in the early mornings while gathering my thoughts and my (TAWG) Time Alone With God and am thankful that I experienced more than the "average" American child growing up in the late 1960's and 1970's when politics and pride were openly discussed in our home. So, when my son calls me or writes me of his experiences it always brings a flood of memories to heart and I once again, "remember." Then reality sets in and I realize that the Cycle/Circle still continues and the Military Life is still in evolution and forges on.
Family is important. Roots are what they are...."roots." Just sometimes for us Military Families- our roots are those little fibers that can reach miles and while they are not really strong roots they are centered for one purpose. Freedom. Military Families have a special bond that allows us to come together if even for a brief moment in our lives. But the one constant bond we all share is the love for our country and being proud to be an American.

I know my post is a day late. But our America Birthday Party was all weekend long. Swimming, cooking out, ice cream making, and watching fireworks.We simply enjoyed our time as we celebrated 234 years of FREEDOM!Attractive, eh? Kaleb and his pants. I refer to them as "Farmers Shorts."
He bails hay in these pants and he assures me that
he is kept cool while keeping his lower legs safe. I say they need to be burned!

Homemade Double Vanilla Ice Cream and Fresh StrawberriesKatie was keeping a vigil over the homemade cream churningKatie and Megan came to visit with their mom, Crystal for the weekend from Ohio.
These two cuties were nothing but giggles.
I think Brianna was a tad bit jealous.
Enjoying the weekend of Birthday Celebration ended with fireworks all around us.
They lasted for about 2 hours and we had some sleepy heads for sure!

I hope you had a terrific holiday. There is just something about family, BBQ, homemade ice cream, and fireworks. It's these times when bonds are sealed for sure.

Summer Camp...

This is the most quiet our house has ever been. Feels kinda empty. 22 years of laughter and hearing ones name being called, "MOM-Dad?" We are on hour 20 of no little voice with a question or saying, "wanna hear my song I wrote?" We dropped off our little girl at summer camp yesterday. Not just any camp but the camp where "WATERLILLIES Bloom!" It is Girl Scout Camp at Pennyroyal (Utica, KY) and it is a week filled with swimming and all kinds of water activities. We have been preparing for over two weeks. Last week I told Bri that she really needs to learn to braid her hair for swimming and she convinced me she could do it right up until about Friday! Her hair was in knots and quite frankly, too long for her to care completely on her own. Let's face it...7 years old and pulling ones hair back is not a priority at this age. So, what we did was cut off her hair. She is sporting a new sassy look. I convinced her it would grow back. Her hair was down below her waste and past her fanny when wet. So we bobbed it off and I think she will do well with shorter locks. 6 days and 5 nights is a long time to have her do her own hair with no-one to help her out.
So, I am sure this Waterlily will do just fine now.We waited in the air conditioned van until they unlocked the gates. We arrived too early as we thought we could walk the campgrounds. But to "Daddy's" surprise he was pleased it is set up like Fork Knox.

The stamp on hand means Bri is all checked in and ready for fun. I mean, who would not have fun with the names of counselors like, "Lunchbox," "String Bean," and "Pickle?"

The drop off was uneventful. She was ready. Hugs and a "I will see you on Friday!"
She was already engaging in conversation with new friends as we drove out the gate.

So, it was a quiet ride back home. It was a quiet evening last night. My thoughts travel to her from my heart. I miss her. But then I know...this is a growing time for her.
An experience she will always remember.

Summer Camp-it is a right of passage I believe.

I love summer. I am currently sporting a FABULOUS tan.
(mascara only needed when out and about)

I swim nearly everyday and am loving it.
Life is good.
The weather is warm.
(okay, HOT and Humid)
The sun is shining, daily! (apparently, this is what happens when suntan oil gets on your iPhone camera lens)

This weekend our daughter will be attending her first "over night" camp!
She will be gone just shy of a week and our house is all about the excitement.
The camp is 1.5 hours away and it promises to be quite the time.
The camping is rustic and we are prepared for anything.

Brianna is quite pleased with herself these days.
She is now jumping off the diving board and and in one day,
she went off the board into 12' 6" water 49 times.
This is a sure fire way to wear oneself out and sleep soundly through the night.
Ahhhh, summer!
Our mid-summer vacation to Perdido Key has been cancelled because our beach near the house has been officially closed due to the Disastrous Spill in the Gulf.

Well, we are off for more water fun today...
So, how is your SUMMERTIME?

I can remember living at Fort Hood, Texas and Saturday mornings a group of us "pre-teens and teens" would walk to the "little store" on base and buy a Slurpee, gum, and the ultimate...TIGER BEAT!

I recently "un-earthed" an old Tiger Beat in a container that had many things from my room when I was younger. I think my mother put them away for me in the idea of a "time capsule." While I was really into many different singing artists, bands, and actors...one stood out for me.
You remember, Robby Benson?!
Yes, he had the bluest of eyes.
So, I Googled him and checked out is Bio.
Hard to believe, but he is 11 years older than me.
It sure did not seem he was that older when he played in "Ode to Billie Jo."
Anyway, I was shocked to read that he was the voice of the "Beast" in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." Shows you how much attention I pay to credits when I have seen it at least 30 times with my daughter.

In any case, he was one of my teen throbs and his picture was plastered on my closet door along with many others. But he stands out to me in a silent yet mysterious way. I think he is still handsome and I believe I would actually sign up for one of his classes at NYU...if I did not have a family. There's a clue....we grow up and look fondly back on memories that make us smile and take us back for just a millisecond and we are 13 again.

Well, I am a HUGE fan of The Tudors.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers reminds me a great deal of Robby Benson.

when I think of Robby Benson I am 13 years old again
and when I watch The Tudors I am soaking in every detail of every scene.

Summertime is full of SUN FUN and for generations countless Americans flock to the shores of the Gulf to walk in the sugar beaches that are so white it makes the water seem more emerald than gray. I love the Gulf. Our family throughout all of its generations has gone to the beach every summer. Most of us live on the Gulf now.
Some of us...never left.

I fear what is to become of all that is happening with the Gulf Disaster.
So, I keep looking back at all the summers and all the pictures.
I am inspired to remember the beauty of Gulf.

It's still happening "over there." Across the world there are still soldiers fighting, protecting, and rebuilding a country that I honestly know little about the people and their customs.
It is far from the "headline" news.
In fact, it is rarely talked about anymore.
But our soldiers are still there.
I struggled with scrapbooking these photos. But this did happen.
It is still happening whether my son is there or not.
Someones loved one is there continuing to do what needs to be done.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...

Digging up the past...

Well as of this morning Perdido Pass west of Pensacola is now closed during high tide. This is sad. I keep finding myself scrapping with older photos this week and of course the beach is on my mind. We hope to get down to Perdido in July. My cousin Mike says this is all the locals are talking about. He told me that the beach has been full as the locals believe this will be the last time the beach will be beautiful. It is really sad as the Dolphin, Manatee, and Stingray are abundant in the Perdido Key area and they love the pass.
So, I just hope there is relief in the future for our beaches.

I have been scrapping with "Partly Sunny" from Studio Calico. I popped into SC day before yesterday and visited with April's mom a bit and of course, I never leave empty handed.
I keep adding things to my boxes.

This kit ROCKS my World!Well, I am out and about today shopping and tonight is date night and celebrating a Birthday.

Heritage Scrapbooking

I have hundreds of these little 1" x 1" photos. It seems that was the fashion in photo printing in the 1960's. They are square and tiny. So, I have decided to start scrapbooking them and telling their stories as I know them. Scrapbooking them in a non-traditional Heritage Layout. I scan the original as many of them are corner bent and faded.
Nevertheless, they are part of my family history. They are really fun to create with and I am finding this is where my creative outlet seems to be lately. Heritage.

The Power of Memory...

can be daunting at times. One year ago today, my grand-mother died. We were in Perdido Key, Florida and the last time I saw her was on her 90th Birthday, June 6th. She was part of the "Greatest Generation," and she used to refer to her Birthday as..."B-DAY is D-Day." Everyone called her "Bea" and with history dictating that "D-Day" fell on her Birthday...she always referred to her special day in this way. I miss her. More so today than yesterday or even 6 months ago. It is hard considering my uncle, (her son) left this earth in April of this year.
So, their entire family is gone.
It seems surreal in a defining way that life does in fact go on. As time goes by, memories fade and when you think of the loved one being gone....
this too is gaped wider and wider and only bridged when something triggers a memory.
It's scary really...my boys and daughter will remember my grandmother and I will of course will remember them all. But after me...the only thing that will remain on this earth are descendants and my scrapbook pages.
When I created this layout with Graphic 45...
I cut out the roses from the paper as throughout history...flowers used in any art (especially paintings) where there are people...denotes one or more within the photo are deceased.

The Gulf...

The situation in the Gulf is on every one's mind. I spoke with my cousin, Mike on the phone yesterday and it is like "doomsday" looming for all the locals in Perdido Key. We are planning on going down in July and it seems the beaches and the water may be contaminated with the BP Disaster. This is why I scrapped a few memories over the weekend. It is just constantly on my mind.Taking in the sun today. It simply makes me feel alive.

Today, I remember with loving thanks

Today is a day when we remember our fallen heroes. Those that paid the ultimate cost with their own lives for the sake of all Americans. I am from a military family. I have a military father(died in Vietnam), step-father(served in Vietnam), uncles, cousins, a brother, and of course
from the Greatest Generation, my grandfather.

The photo above is my Grandfather-Gartis G. Thornton, my grandmother-Bea, my mother-Brenda, and my uncle-Chuck.
(all deceased)

It has been said and I will say it again, without the our heroes we would not have democracy today in our everyday lives if it were not for the huge sacrifice that was given by our fallen heroes. We were a family that was lucky not to have to go on without a loved one but the scars that were left from WWII were never forgotten. My grandfather had a very hard time moving forward with life once he returned from the war.
He died in 1986.
My mother was the next to die from this family in 1988. My grandmother died last year, 3 days after her 90th birthday. My uncle died this year in April.
So, today... we remember the dead. It is morbid, yes. It is selfish, yes.
But I am living proof that life and generations continue after death. I am living proof that sacrifice from war whether it be during the war or the lingering memories that haunt ones life upon returning....still live on. I am proud to have been from a family that is military. I am proud that I grew up as an army brat. I am proud now, that I have a son who has served in Iraq and continues to serve our country.

Today...I remember you Papa!
Thank you for serving in Okinawa, Japan.

Just Because...

Yesterday morning I scrapped a page without pre-planning and simply winging it. It took me about 35 minutes to create the layout and it set the tone for my day. It was great. Starstruck

This month at Art Freckles, the May kit is named "Starstruck."

Oglethorpe University Commencement-Atlanta, Georgia
Saturday, the Eighth of May
2010

My son, Stephen James Archer received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting!
In addition, Stephen received the Prestigious Award the James Edward Oglethorpe Award for his class. This is only given to one female and one male in each class. This was a grand surprise and we were so very proud!

Stephen graduated Cum Laude and the President of the Colleges made a comment that he was happy baseball season was over for now he could see Stephen's face. Stephen is a superstitious baseball player and did not shave throughout baseball season. Of course, this made everyone chuckle. How so very proud we are of his accomplishments and now he will begin the rest of his life with fortitude and grace. I know our son will do well in life.
We are proud of you Stephen.

Our theme is 'BACK TO BASICS'. Thinking back to the tools and techniques we used when we first started scrapbooking.

For me, this may be hard as I only started scrapbooking back in 2005. So, I thought I would show a few of my layouts and I chose to showcase BUTTONS. Be sure to use buttons on your layout (see step 3 above).

My creations are from the years of 2005 and 2006. It is kinda funny looking back at how I used to scrap. I hope you have a great day of creating and sharing a memory with BASIC Scrapbooking Techniques.

I used buttons and at this particular time I was really into doodling on my layouts as well.

I layered the buttons and used twine in some detail with each of the button stacks.

Yes, he visits all of the time. Does not matter what time of day it is but he loves poking through our fence in the backyard. He loves the green clover in our grass. I keep telling my husband that we cannot get rid of it yet as the little guy loves the clover and we can wait a bit longer. I never have my camera ready but I did grab it to try and capture the little guy. Of course, settings were all wrong but my time was limited as I was fearing he would dash away.

He really has a thing for being under our Dogwood Tree.
